The one-sentence version

The VORTECS™ score is an algorithmic rating from 0 to 100 that answers one question: how closely do a coin's current market conditions resemble past conditions that came before a price rally?

It was developed by Cointelegraph together with The TIE, an institutional crypto data firm, and it's the core feature of the Cointelegraph Markets Pro platform, live since early 2021.

What goes into the score

The model ingests four streams of data for each supported coin, around the clock:

1. Market sentiment How positive or negative the conversation around the coin is, measured across social platforms and news.
2. Trading volume Whether volume is expanding or contracting relative to the coin's own history.
3. Price momentum Recent price action in the context of the coin's typical behavior.
4. Social activity The raw volume of chatter — tweet counts and social mentions — which often spikes before volatility.

The algorithm then compares this live fingerprint against years of historical data. When the current combination closely matches setups that historically preceded gains, the score rises.

How traders read the number

ScoreCommon interpretation
0–40Conditions look historically unfavorable or neutral-bearish.
40–60Neutral. No meaningful historical pattern either way.
60–80Conditions lean historically bullish — worth watching.
80+Rare. Current conditions strongly resemble pre-rally setups from the past. These are the alerts subscribers wait for.

Experienced users treat a high score as a screening signal — a reason to look closer at a chart — not as an automatic buy button. It compresses hours of monitoring into a single number, which is the actual value: you can't personally watch sentiment, volume, momentum and social data on hundreds of coins. An algorithm can.

What the score can't do

Any review that skips these caveats is selling you something. Our full Markets Pro review covers who the platform is genuinely worth it for — and who should keep their $99.
